Grass Season 2017 What will you be doing for free this year?

We have received a few calls and emails asking us to cut grass for various Nationals this summer.

One wanted complete property condition photos on every grass cut. They are only paying $45.00 on average so we said Nah...

Another wanted complete PCR pics and they require a photo of the keycode with Key in door, Pic of Lockbox, Pic of Keys in lockbox, Pic of Garbage Disposal, and a few more. I asked "why if I am there to cut grass would I be taking a pic of the garbage disposal?" They replied "it's a requirement for that client" I said when we cut grass we ONLY cut grass. Any work above or beyond that grass cut will be an additional charge including additional photographs.

As it stands we will not be doing any grass cuts for nationals this year. I can't believe the ridiculous requirements and low wages they think they can get away with.

basically the phone call is:

Nat: can you cut this lawn for a loss?

Me: no, I need to make money to stay in business

Nat: we have 3000 cuts we can give you

Me: why would i want to multiply my loss by 3000?

Nat: you make up for the low price with volume

Me:

Nat: hello

Me:

Nat: hello?

Seeing that with every company now. EVERY WO comes with a full photo doc.
Been asking how much extra do I get paid? You already know the answer. It's becoming the new standard. They just bend you over every chance they get. Also, taking a tape measure on grass cuts. Ridiculous. Whats next? Fingerprint verification on lock changes. Insane.

The money we lost each summer thru cut invoices from nationals would have paid for a couple of crews.

Fast forward to present day and a typical exchange between our routine brokers each spring-

Broker- "Need an initial lawn service at 123 Bark Road, Anytown, up to $200. Can you complete within 7 days?"

Me- We won't be in that area for a few days to have a look at the property.

Broker-I'll send you over some pics I took last week. Lot is 50'x125'

Me-(after seeing the pics) Yep, we'll knock it out and send you over pics and an invoice as soon as we're done. Thanks.

Broker-Thank YOU.

Any photos above our 4 before, two with the equipment and 4 after are for OUR files.

We use tapes for our brokers, but it's out of courtesy- because our clients are only like the ones GTX talks about. Those are the only ones we work for anymore.

Heck- one of em didn't have any winter services needed at one property, so when I was in the area of that property the other day I stopped by to take some current condition pictures for them, because they pay us well for what we do, and are great to work for.

Not much.
Just placard photos of each blade of grass cut, and picture with serial number and copy of receipt of all equipment and your tax return.
Make sure you upload a new picture with serial number and copy of receipt of all equipment and your tax return on each work order because that might have changed from the work order you uploaded 30 minutes ago.
Picture with photo id and background check of all second cousins of any crew member on jobsite.
Full electrical inspection of all interior and exterior light fixtures, especially the high exterior pole lights and free bulb replacement of any not working. Oh and while you are there a free full white glove clean and hvac air filter change and roof replacement.
So yeah, not much!.

6 years ago I was doing 400-600 cuts a month. This year it'll be closer to 50 a month on foreclosures. Definitely expanding private work.

I got a call from one company that wanted full pres work, including lawns. He said 'I pay well but we do have very strict photo policy'. I told him to send it over so I could look at it.

Not exaggerating or joking. On EVERY work order there were a certain amount of required photos for each item, totaling 658 pics. Unbelievable.
