i don't agree with backround checks for subcontractors, but if a company wants one its their call, you don't have to do with them, 5brs been bothering me about a backround check for the past month. i just don't comply (because i'm not in P&P anymore) if i was though i probably would because i have nothing to hide and would want the work. with all the lawsuits and easy thefts that are happening on initial secures , i think the banks are just trying to weed out any possible future problems. but if you have an charge thats unrelated to ethics of working in the industry i don't see how that should be held against you. As for the discrimination in the articles thats just statics, African Americans have a a much larger crime rate (5-6X i think) than any other race in America so yeah theres gonna be a lot more of them that don't pass backround checks thats just statistics not racism. but sincerely i think every persons backround check should be taken on a case by case basis. I got denied a job at home depot 13 years ago when i was in college for a disorderly conduct charge Trying to break up a bar fight, cost me $300 just to get it expunged.

I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to a check if it helped weed out all the hacks. They could do it like were going to do a BC on you and if you pass then you get reimbursed the fee. Fail and your out of luck and your $$$.

The background checks I have no problems with. I understand the WHY. The process in which they request it, I also understand the WHY.

Most contractors work for more than one supplier. Each one has their own preference and way they do business. I think if they would explain why they want these background checks done by so and so. This is one of the new rules of this game we choose to play.

Background checks on subcontractors are b.s.

All the company (s) are looking to make sure there are sufficient assets to go after if you commit an act that could cause harm to them. All the companies have to do is require a surety bond for "xx" dollars. If you have a "substandard" background you will pay a ton OR wont be able to purchase.

In a nutshell I would NEVER allow 1 of these nationals/regionals access to my background info! THEY are the biggest crooks there are PERIOD! They themselves are more than likely financially unstable and cant get a good financial report from Duns, Moody or AM Best and are using the contractors reports to make themselves look better to the client (s).

As anyother ponzi scheme.... follow the money! Ask for the company YOU work for a copy of their most up to date audits? They will say "thats proprietary information" but its NOT.... When a company is granted a long term contract with a government agency then they must submit yearly audits...get a copy and Im sure it will STUN you. You can request a FOA ( Freedom of Information) request and get 1. You will rethink your P&P business decisions in respect to naming a company as an additional insured or just plain being married to a certain company.

I hear everyone state ...I'm not opposed to the BC issue...I understand why...etc...
What everyone is missing is the element of "personal Information"...
It is against the law...I'm finding every state has an "Employee Privacy Act"...when it comes to employees information.
That said to clean the mess up they created you have to break the law????
sort of an oxy-moron isn't it????
It is against the law to send your employees personal information...in addition you can not be discriminated against for being an ex-felon.....that is also against the law...
So let me break the law for???????
That is the bottom line is it legal for you to send you employee's information..
So the dichotomy created is all for what???? So the companies that created the mess in this industry can save face????
