I have never "given a discount" in my so-called FS career so far, that I am aware of. I have see it on fee schedules before ("Must offer 20% discount) listed next to fees. However, I know the companies I receive work from take a cut, I just never know what it is because they pay flat fees, take it or leave it. I've read around the 'net over the years they are getting 30%-ish. Is the discount and the "cut" the same thing? If not, and the nats/regs are already getting their cut, why on earth would a discount be required?

Just curious in case I ever am asked to "give a discount" myself. Thanks!

When nationals take a discount it should be off of the published prices set by FNM, FHA, VA, etc.

If you're working for someone who gives you a flat price list it's possible you're working for a vendor, and the "cut" you're missing is probably much higher than 30%.

A quick search for FHA Exhibit B, FNM cost allowables, etc. will give you a price list to go off of.
