how did you find direct work and was it worth it????

hello everybody I started my business this January worked in construction 12 yrs mostly hard scape and framing and would help a friend with his P&P business when work was slow I would ask him everyday how do I start my own business and find work like you did, because he always had to much work and would decline the orders instead of letting me do them which i am fully capable having owned all my equipment ect. found a ad on craigslist one day and thats how i got in the biz but some of these companies are crazy ( $10 a cyds lol ) I've been reading this forum for some time and finally joined to be part of the conversation I own a small company in the central valley California i work a lot of P&P here and in the mountains I really love this work it is something that I cant wait to get out of the bed to do NO BOSS YAY but I know I should be making more money and I'm not getting the pay I could and want.I see everybody saying stop the work for these middleman companies but how did you do it ?? My question is simple,

1. How do I find work in this business that doesn't involve a middleman like safeguard or nfn ect??????

2. How did you find these companies?

thanks in advance

Good luck...
Most companies you can work directly with will require you to have a General Contractors license.
There will some some that claim they work direct but I would take that with a grain of salt.
Federal Contracting is one way to go. If you'd like info on that email me and I'll direct you to the information you'll need.
If you do get on directly chances are they will be a small mortgage company with low volume.
