I'm considering doing inspections, mostly

occupancy. What is a reasonable price for these, for you guys who have done them? I know there are a lot of factors. I'm talking about high volume clients and within 40 miles, keeping overhead low. Just trying to get an idea before I agree to it. I honestly don't know Sh$% about it. I know I would need to bring in $50-60 and hour gross to make any money at it. Thoughts?

I believe the clients pay somewhere around $35 for occupancy verifications. The Nats pay around $3-$6 depending on location.
40 mile radius can vary quite a bit if you are in Wyoming vs say, Chicago.

The guy I talked to was quoting me $10

But, even at that, I don't think it would pan out. That's an inspection every ten minutes to get my numbers to work. I guess I had better just pass on it.

The inspections that pay more than the drive by require you to get out and do a door knock. Once they step onto the porch, you give the homeowner a letter and possibly your cell phone so they can speak to the collections department. Interior inspections may kick the price up a couple bucks as well. Yes, ohnojim, the prices are terrible; less than they were in 1995.

At $15 I could do it, but not at $10.

If they are getting $35, it just makes no sense to try and pawn them off at $10. Oh, well.

Sure it does, to companies like Safeguard, because there are folks doing them. I lost a sub several years ago who thought he could make his fortune running around Missouri in an S10 pickup doing 90 a day for Safeguard. 70,000 miles a year on his truck. Dog bites, homeowner's threatening him, several car chases and being run off the road, chargebacks, plus the computer time after the driving was insane. Ran the truck into the ground, no time for family or any life. He did them for almost 2 years. He called me in October 2011 for his old job. He made 31k in those 10 months.
