Maine

This is starting to get interesting.
Quote:
New Maine Law Targets Property Preservation Companies
The Governor has signed into law a bill that authorizes the Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection to “regulate property preservation entities operating on behalf of lenders.”
The measure was drafted by Maine Attorney General Janet T. Mills after a six-month investigation into foreclosures.
LD1389 (now Public Law, Chapter 521) includes a “residential real estate property preservation provider” in the definition of “debt collector.”
The new law allows these providers to enter into a dwelling “only if authorized by the terms of a note, contract or mortgage.”
Providers are required to “inventory any unsecured items removed from the dwelling and immediately notify the appropriate consumer that the unsecured items will be made available in a manner convenient to the consumer.”
Consumers must be provided with a copy of this inventory upon request.
A “permanent record” must show steps taken to preserve and secure the dwelling.

This is exactly how we did initial secures 10-15 yrs ago!!! We did things the right way, we had buildings for storage and charged a monthly storage charge, posted ads in 3 different newspapers notifying that items would be auctioned if not reclaimed or surrendered, $35/hr for inventorying EVERYTHING in house (yes even 1 sock), filed the inventory with County Clerks Office& placed a estimate of value.

WE MADE MONEY THEN!!

Congrats to all that live in Maine!
