Crazy roof repairs

We just finished this roof this weekend , all others on 2nd bids bid real high so they wouldn't have to do it. I bid 2750.00 with discount, the area was 18x12 or so. Ok get this the roof had 4 layers of shingles with a 1/2 inch layer of old school hot tar between the the 2 layers of shingles. the roof had a 6x4 area completely rotten area on the end as the pics show, cover by a plywood 6hrs, 4guys.

before

plywood covering hole

layers of shingles and tar

hole after shingles removed

some support for new decking

new decking

finely made to wood

rolling it out

seaming 4 layers of shingle with new shingles

seamed together

finished

if you got any crazy roof repairs post them.

Not sure on building codes down in the south but in Michigan that roof is going to leak in the winter and you are going to face one mass chargeback.

Up north you need at least 1 row of ice and water and you have zero step flashing. If I was a national I would be pissed about that repair, may look ok but it doesn't even follow basic roof repair practices.

It may be different in the south. It may pass code in Florida but I'm not sure.

A minor repair like this falls under home owner repair with no permit needed, i knew that flashing wood stand out to a more observant eye. The siding was asbestos slate with pre-drilled holes from the old flashing which was not stepped at all. We had no choice but to reuse the old holes and caulk the new flashing in place, the client was well aware of the dilemma we faced with it. Which of course was in the work order verbiage and with the bid submitted along with emails, so if a claim was to take place im covered.

leaving the home with water poring in to it was causing the the bank far more damage and mold issues an temp fix which this repair was, they didn't even want us to go to the ridge line like we requested in the first place.

Here in the south things are far more relaxed than up north, thus the term "Crazy roof repairs"

permanently "Cloud Storing" emails, work orders, and bids submitted will save you every time. EO companies always look at those first before they make a payout, I tell you this from past experiences and claims made against me.

I agree tho the siding looks like it could be ASBESTOS. I would NOT touch that stuff either ! Black jack the snot out of the seam and call it good. Also put in a 90 day warranty and that's that ! iCE GUARD IS A must bot areas, EVE and change of slope seam. Depending on discount 25% would take you down to the 2100 area take out sales tax we are down to 1900 dump fees and such what was YOUR profit?? BTW I HATE 3 tab its like showing up at a NASCAR race with a tricycle and it is now more expensive than architectural roofing that is WAY superior.
