I have a job opening for you as well, Wanewbie... I charge $275 for my background check, and can get you in my system immediately. I know that it sounds expensive, but remember - you get what you pay for, right?
These companies can do a basic search with the information you supply in the initial packet, to see if there is anything that pops out negatively. After that, they run a comprehensive check, and there is no way in the world that it should cost that much. Paying for the service, and the data entry guy's wages, there's no reason to get charged more than $25, $45 if they pull a credit report.
Why pay for the right to work for someone?
