How do I get a title for a car gained from a trash out?

I had to remove a vehicle from a property that I trashed out almost two years ago, the vehicle has been in my yard and I was wondering if anyone knows what process I need to go through to get a title, I live in North Carolina?

Different states have different laws regarding this. In my state you can't do it unless you are a tow company/wrecker yard and have had it for at least 30 days but most wait 90 days just to be safe because then they can claim the storage cost more than the car and justify filing for the title to pay the storage debt.

In my state we file a lawsuit against the BMV I know it sounds crazy but it's a fairly easy process.

Call the DMV. It's a process that involves you registering with the DMV that you're storing it inside a locked, secure area. You give them the address and they will come verify it. After 60 days of that process you can file to reassign the title.

There's a lot of red tape. Best bet is to link in with somebody that already owns a garage and have them get you a salvage title via mechanics lien.

Check not only your state law but the town as well..
We have in the past filed a mechanics lien and placed an ad in the paper with the VIN and the $ amount of our towing and storage fees. Then a buttload of paperwork and about 6 months of waiting to get a title..
