payouts

Hey fellow Contractors I have been in the business for about 2 years now and I really have a hard time with these companies that give you a contractors price payout sheet and they tell you that these are your payouts and then when they send you a check and you are reconciling out the payouts it is not at all according to the sheets they give you then you bring it to there attention and they how convenient change there contractor payouts to benefit them Unbelievable I am so fed up with that we do all the work and they reap the biggest reward just needed to vent does anyone else have issues like this

an excel spreadsheet or quickbooks - or both - will be your friend. When you get the list of jobs you are being paid, check it line by line. And don't be afraid to collect every penny they owe you. I'll usually stop at sending a remit shortage email if the amount is less than $5, but I have sent one for $2, just cuz I was PO'd looking at the shortages for that particular check.

And one other thing, keep a list of jobs completed, check them off as they are paid (always check to see if you've been paid for a job). Most of the industry pays in 30-45 days. If it gets older than that, send in a remit invoice email.

Diligence will get you paid. Best advice I ever got - "Don't get mad, get paid."

Excel, Quickbooks etc, is a must for tracking your invoices. Many of these regional boneheads will try to nickel and dime you believing it isn't enough for you to complain about.
We would spend hours, for example, trying to make sense of checks from Safeguard. A 15k check with 60 invoices may be off by as much as 10%. A trashout invoiced for $880 may show only $610, then a grass cut for $60 shows $90. Their own internal work order numbers would be flipped around, sometime listed as "NA". My naive side wanted to believe it was a dept of underpaid careless girls with number fatigue; realistically, their accounting department could have been named "Don't Know, Don't Care, Don't Give a Crap". So we send in a list of invoice errors with corrections and hope after a few weeks they would adjust the amounts.
FYI, some companies will tell you if you fail to dispute an amount after 60 days, it is no longer valid.

Please consider posting the company name. Many people here have been burned by many shady companies. You might get better collection assistance if we know who you are talking about.
