I want to get my company certified for Lead paint. My question(s) are:
- Is there different levels I.e inspection, remediation, etc?
-Insurance requirements?
-proper school and/or program?
Also would certification for asbestos be similar?
Here in the Lehigh valley area of PA there is a lot of older homes that I know still have such materials.
I've asked others in my area but never get a straight answer.

Check with your individual state. Some states administer the program and some follow EPA guidelines.
In Wisconsin, the Department of Health and Safety administers the program. Here we have Lead Inspectors, Lead renovators and Lead Abatement. I am certified for Lead Renovation. It was an 8 hour class with an exam. All total about $400.
I'm assuming Lead Abatement companies would need to carry commercial pollution insurance on top of the GL. However, I'm not 100% on that.
For asbestos, I'm only aware of inspectors and abatement certifications. I don't think you can "renovate" with asbestos like you can with lead paint.
Also, when you get into the abatement side, they have additional certification for the "supervisors" and the "workers". So if you are on the job, you have to get the supervisor cert. Any employees would need the worker cert.
Asbestos I would definately get if abatement is your plan. Much better $$, "less" work and less competition. Carpet installers would send work your way...asbestos vinyl. We paid an asbestos guy 1210.00 for a 10x12 room of "black" linoleum. Took 'em 2 hrs.
The asbestos license for abatement is a 4 day course here. There is a 3 day course in some places. Once you obtain the abatement certification then at least 1 person must take the supervisors course which is a 2 day course--I believe.
I have contacts who do asbestos and they enjoy it. I stay away due to the higher liability and thus higher Insurance premiums.
Honestly the Asbestos project is no different than a mold project..same equipment, same containment zones, respirators (different cartridge)..otherwise pretty much the same scope of work.
Thanks for the info. I want to expand scope of work and overall knowledge. I always believe knowledge/training is needed to troubleshoot problems and explain to the customer. Salesman motto " If I can't convince you with my brilliance, dazzle/convince you with B.S."
Anyone here getting into doing Property inspection for potential buyers of properties for sale?
here in PA I've heard $600 to $1500 for a buyers inspection with report and photos. I figure already doing similar process it could be an easy transition
