How can people make money off these prices. Did a mowing for $117. They failed to mention that the entire quarter acre was carpeted in leaves and would not pay extra to remove. This job for a normal customer would be around $650. but work is slow so I figured I'd give this a shot. This yard took me 3.5 hrs to clean this yard. Then come to find out that supposedly the visneta system screwed up and I would not be getting $117. But $45 instead. Because they wont pay that kind of money for periodic work. Then tell me that they take 20% of what they do pay as there fee. Super pissed. Went 2.5 hrs away to install a dehumidifier that I had to buy for $170. job paid $275 I thought when I took it that hey what the hell I have nothing better to do. After finding out about this 20% bull crap I did the math and figured that after all that all I'm ending up with is $36.25 which doesn't even cover my gas to go where I had to go .You guys that do this for a living how in the hell do you make money?

Here's a few answers:
1. Know exactly what you're agreeing to before you accept any offered work.
2. Don't accept work from companies that are not willing to pay YOUR prices.
3. Don't let anyone tell you after the work has been completed that the "system" screwed up and you won't be getting paid the amount you originally agreed to .

A few things...

Everything PopPresPro said, and a couple more.

Any company can screw anyone at anytime. I might get screwed by the company that you do fine with, or visa versa. Build a working relationship with a rep or 2. When you do work right and on time, you make them look good and they should have your back.

DON"T GIVE IT AWAY! Your time is valuable. YOU set the prices. When a price is agreed on, just ask for a quick email confirmation. If you're unsure of discounts, tell them you need a "number in my pocket".

Don't let them sell you on volume. Price each job as if it were the only job you are doing that day. If they don't like it, fine. Chances are they will go searching for someone cheaper. Chances are good they won't find it and call you back shortly.

The oldest dirtiest trick is "photos don't justify work performed". Read the photo requirement before accepting the work. If you need 200 pics for a dehumidifier, something stinks. Walk away.

Too many guys lost everything trying to make a buck in this biz. Good luck and be careful.
