Can someone explain to me how subcontracting for larger companies works? Do you bid the job and then the larger comp adds to the bid for their take, or do you bid the job then they pay you your % of that bid? I am really not sure how this works. Also do any of you use a field service industry software? Such as(eastpoint ect.) and if so which one would you recommend? It seem like I might have to have something like this for recieving work orders, sending pics ect.

Depends on which company you use. We use eastpoint systems fieldcomm.

Yes, you give a bid for your portion of the work to the GC. When your portion is finished, the GC pays you the amount of your bid. The amount that the GC marks up your bid is his/her business.

Yes this is how it is suppost to work. Think of them as a reseller. They buy u at 500 and sell for 1000 and they make 500

What I think your asking is, if your a sub working for a contractor that has a relationship with a field services management company.

The usual pay is about 60% and they would provide the software such as Eastpoint.

If your saying your a contractor working directly for a field services company, that's different.

You work for them, they keep 15-25% of your total invoice so you need to charge more to make up for this.

Regarding software, I bought Eastpoint, which I think is crazy expensive and I hated it. It's really complicated, little in ways of instruction or training, the billing is hard to understand. I think our upfront costs and first 2 months was $1700. We dropped it for a home made system that is a network drive with logon, and an online spreadsheet for assigning jobs.
